Broad Leaved Nira Chinese Leek (Buchu)
Seed Count: Approx. 100 seeds
Days to Maturity: 100 days+; Perennial
Description: Broad Leaved Nira Chinese leek is a Japanese variety with thick, broad, deep green leaves that boast tasty, mild, garlic flavor. I love this herb, because I can make one of my favorite Korean side dishes with it, buchu kimchi (garlic chive kimchi). However, it is delicious added to lots of dishes, like buchu jeon (korean garlic chive pancakes), dumplings, stir-fries, and salads, especially where adding raw garlic might be overwhelming. It has cute white flowers that are loved by pollinators. Broad leaved Nira Chinese Leeks are deer tolerant, and quite heat and cold tolerant as well, making it a very easy herb to grow. It likes to grow in full sun, but will also grow partially shaded. Plus, once it's established, this leek can be divided, replanted, and grown for several years.
