Description: Green Skin Bitter melon is a variety of Chinese bitter gourd that produces 8-10" long fruit around 3" in diameter, with green wrinkly/warty skin. The fruit can be eaten raw or cooked in various dishes like soups and stir-fries. You can even use the fruit to make tea a delicious mild tasting tea, and the leaves and shoots are also edible on this versatile plant! Bitter gourd/melon is popular in Asian, African, and Caribbean countries, however, it does have a strong distinctive, astringent flavor that is definitely an acquired taste. Bitter melons are a vining plant that thrive in long, hot, and humid environments. Since its seed's shell is quite hard, it may fail to germinate, if they do not have adequate moisture or heat. Bitter melons are not self pollinating, and its vines will need a sturdy trellis, because they will get heavy, since they are quite prolific and have a tendency to really sprawl.
